You are the Light of the World – Matthew 5:14-16. In Matthew 5:14–16 we see believers depicted as the light of the world. You Are the Light of the World. The city of man consists of heathen people, who live according to their passions. “You are the light of the world. Jesus was speaking to a crowd of just ordinary folks. This word is in a form that could be passive, given its meaning it is much more likely a form describing the subject acts on itself, "lying itself down."
Even today, you are the light of the world. Rabbis taught that God was the light of the world, or that the Torah or the tribe of Israel was the light of the world. These two cities are very different.

And of course, in Augustine’s mind, the City of God is just a different term that refers to the church. The second part of the verse is a metaphor for the metaphor "light of the world." Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. It is closely related to the parables of Salt and Light and Lamp under a bushel. Light of the World is a phrase Jesus used to describe himself and his disciples in the New Testament. It is about what it means to be a light of the world and how to be a light to other people. This reminds me of a famous book entitled ‘The City of God.’ In that great book, Augustine speaks about two cities: the city of man and the City of God. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.
“The light of the world” was a common expression in Jewish tradition at that time. The light speaks of the testimony of a follower of Christ, revealing and illuminating the truth. Just as the moon has no light of its own, reflecting the light of the sun, so are believers to reflect the Light of Christ so that all can see it in us. It would describe the people reclining on the mount t listen to him. " A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. On the other hand, the City of God is made up of believers, who live according to the law of God. Yet Christ said to them, "You are the light of the world" (Matthew 5:14). The phrase is recorded in the Gospels of Matthew and John.
Just as He came as the Light of the world, He commands us to be “lights,” too. Ye are the light of the world. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl.
