In July 2011, Space Shuttle Atlantis launched into space for the last time on the STS-135 mission. The program was originally intended to create a family of experimental aircraft not intended for production beyond the limited number of each design built solely for flight research. JSC History The Manned Spacecraft Center (MSC) was established in 1961 as the lead center for NASA's human spaceflight programs. MSC became home to the iconic Mission Control Center, where flight controllers have managed every crewed flight since Gemini IV in 1965.
